Mainstream Apologetics Overview

Advancing the Truth Claims of the Christian Faith

MAINSTREAM APOLOGETICS WEBSITE

Our organization

Mainstream Apologetics employs both Classical and Evidential Apologetics methods to argue the truth claims of the Christian faith.

Classical Apologetics incorporates logical methods from the field of Philosophy which rely on the theory of formal logic. Evidential Apologetics incorporates empirical methods from the field of Science which rely on formulas and theorems. Both logical and empirical methods utilize Mathematics. Therefore, these two approaches to Apologetic are both rigorous and systematic.

Apologetics information is organized as Evidence, Claims and Arguments. This organization provides an effective and consistent framework by which to reason about Apologetics topics, and thus makes Apologetics more understandable and sharing.

Evidence represents observations and analyses resulting from applying empirical methods. They are based on research in cosmology, physics, microbiology, mathematics, psychology, and other disciplines. Evidence is the raw material upon which inductive statements are formed. Throughout Mainstream Apologetics, evidence is outlined in GREEN and denoted by a Magnifying Glass icon symbolizing the rigor of the investigation process.

Claims are inductive statements comprised of a conclusion, and one or more supporting evidence. The inductive method draws plausible conclusions from evidence based on observations. The truth of the claim is based on the composite truth of the supporting evidence. The claim is regarded as true if the supporting evidence is true. When claims are attested by multiple, independent sources providing the same or similar testimony, they are regarded as highly plausible. In Mainstream Apologetics, claims are outlined in ORANGE and denoted by the Loudspeaker icon symbolizing a herald making an important announcement.

Arguments are deductive statements comprised of a conclusion, and one or more supporting premises (claims or other arguments). Arguments argue for a well-reasoned conclusion. The deductive method is based on valid logical arguments. The truth of the argument is based on the truth of each of the premises. Arguments are outlined in YELLOW and denoted by the Gavel icon symbolizing a court verdict.
